GLOBAL: WEA World Freedom Network Appoints Director to Focus on Local Church’s Role in Fighting Human Trafficking

Published On: October 8, 2021

The recently launched World Freedom Network (WFN) of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jennifer Roemhildt Tunehag to direct global church engagement for the World Freedom Network.  She will also assist in network development, with a focus on Asia and the Americas.

“Fighting human trafficking may seem like a specialized calling,” Tunehag says, “but we believe that the Church has a unique and crucial role in prevention and restoration.”

Jennifer grew up in Alaska and studied religion at Northwest Nazarene University, with graduate studies in Urban Missions and Global Leadership. She has worked in missions in Europe and Asia for 26 years.  Her ministry began in Athens, Greece, where she served women and men exploited in prostitution for over a decade, starting a local ministry that continues to build bridges of help and hope there.

Tunehag later worked with Julia Doxat-Purser to develop the European Freedom Network as an initiative of the European Evangelical Alliance.   This network of faith-based groups works together across 44 countries, connecting over 260 organisations in the fight against human trafficking and commercial exploitation in the region.  The World Freedom Network will build on this foundation.

Tunehag is also active in creating business solutions to address human trafficking.  She helped start the Freedom Business Alliance, a global network of enterprises creating healing jobs for survivors of exploitation. FBA currently serves over 100 businesses across 30 countries.  Tunehag serves as BAM Global Ambassador for Freedom Business, and is also on the board of Purnaa, a professional cut-and-sew manufacturing business creating jobs with dignity and opportunities to live in freedom in Nepal.

Jennifer is married to Mats Tunehag, a global leader in the Business as Mission (BAM) movement.  The couple lives in Sweden and Washington, DC.
